You ever come across a site with a sweet design or nice feature and you went under the hood to check out the CSS but you get a bunch of illegible code that make your head hurt. Most of the time using Firebug or your browser's developer tools will easily do the job but when you want to look at the CSS as a whole and it's minified, CSS Beautify is one of the many handy tools out there that you should keep in your back pocket

A really good tutorial by Patrick Jaoko published on ActiveTuts+ broke down the code of a bloated particle system and then step by step detailed what can be done to increase the speed and overall performance of the SWF. It was amazing to see how some of the littlest tweaks shown a big difference in CPU. The before and after results are worth checking out. Here are a few of the most basic tweaks he employs — some of which I never thought about but are good to know.
